Tanzania 2011 - Camps International

Thanks to Camps International and the great school team of Notre Dame and Purbeck schools for a great month out in Tanzania this year. It was good to do my first stint as Team Leader with such a motivated bunch of young people. We spent the time mostly working on community projects - and now most of us know how to 'plaster' a wall with cement.
Our trek up Mt Meru was very successful with 100% of us summiting, which was all down to the team being so supportive of each other. I've now got a taste for altitude so fingers crossed I will be working with Camps again next year and maybe they will give me a bigger mountain!
Again it is the people of East Africa that always make visiting there such a pleasure. The warmth, friendliness and generosity of people, some of whom have very little, is humbling and inspiring. Gallery of Images from Tanzania >>
Mentro Allan | Venture Out
I've just finished filming for Mentro Allan who are celebrating their four years of getting young people in Neath Port Talbot more physically active using the outdoors. It was a great couple of months following the activities which included mountain biking, canoeing, bushcraft, surfing, green woodworking and environmental projects. (15minutes)

Puppet Theatre Wales Film
I've had a great time working with Helyn Latimer from Puppet Theatre Wales producing a short film to publicise the work she does. She's a really talented puppeteer and her workshops are always very rewarding and creative. Enjoy! (5minutes)

Sandfields Photography - March 2011

Just finished running a digital photography course with pupils from Years 7 to 11
at Sandfields Comprehensive School in Port Talbot.
The course gave the pupils the opportunity to learn how to use their digital cameras and then we looked at composition, form, pattern, negative space and macro photography. We then spent a glorious afternoon in Margam Park where they put their new skills to good use and taking some very impressive images.
These images have been put into an exhibition at the school which was opened last Thursday. The exhibition will hopefully tour a few other venues in the locality where there will be an opportunity to purchase prints. The photographs will also be used as part of the pupils' GCSE Art and Design coursework.

WinterFest 2010
Winter is definitely here when I'm having to battle with ice, sleet and rain to take photos for outdoor events.
Last weekend's WinterFest was no exception, but the community rallied around and didn't let the adverse weather conditions put them off. Great procession and a really lovely event afterwards in the Arts Centre.
WinterFest was organised by the Pontardawe Chamber of Trade and the procession by Neath Port Talbot CBC.

Riding the Trod & Brambledale Bearded Collies Film
'Brambledale Bearded Collies' is a half hour film made for Lynne Sharpe who established the line of the Brambledale Bearded Collies in the early 60s. Her way of teaching her dogs and allowing them to develop their own characteristics and intelligence has gained her much interest from dog owners and breeders around the world. The video was shot over a month in May/June of this year and illustrates some of her principles of working with this breed. It was a pleasure working with Lynne and her dogs during the filming and I certainly learned a lot about human-dog relationships.
The film can be viewed on her website at Brambledale Bearded Collies.
I have also produced a short film on ‘Riding the Trod’ for Dr Sam Hurn from the School of Archeology, History and Anthropology of the University of Trinity St. David (Lampeter). Riding the Trod is a 25 mile ride on horseback from Strata Florida to Abbey Cwmhir along the medieval track way ‘The Monks’ Trod’.
I followed the ride with their support team filming as and when we met up with the riders and although the day was long, the weather was fantastic and it was great to film in such a beautiful environment.
‘Riding the Trod’ aims to recreate past journeys in a bid to better understand the archaeology of the Trod and the relationships between humans, animals and this enigmatic landscape.
