O'Neill has been one of the more interesting characters in football over the years and so it's no surprise that this is one of the better football autobiographies I have read. And according to the residents of the Japanese island of Okinawa - the world's longest-living people - finding it is the key to a longer and more fulfilled life. As a manager, his legendary time in charge of Celtic saw them win 7 trophies including 3 Scottish Premier League titles and the UEFA Cup, successfully leading Leicester City and Aston Villa to League Cups in England. Then, Martin delves into his work as a manager, including his celebrated leadership of Celtic – retaking dominance from Rangers in his very first Old Firm match.

He became Republic of Ireland manager in 2013 and led them to qualification for the 2016 UEFA European Championship for the third time in the nation’s history, beating the reigning world champions in the process. He captures this in a whistle-stop journey through 50 years in football and the reader is left in no doubt as to the underlying passion that fuels a glittering career whilst abbreviating some of his management roles. Martin O’Neill is one of the most respected men in soccer, I grew up watching his Celtic side play and reach the UEFA cup final in 2003. As a manager, his legendary time in charge of Celtic saw them win seven trophies including three Scottish Premier League titles and the UEFA Cup, and he successfully led both Leicester City and Aston Villa to League Cups in England. This is a tidy little book, it charts the progress of a man who I am sure will be fondly remembered as a football genius by my generation.

But, for some reason his managerial time became almost just a list of dates and scores and ended up being like so many other average football biographies.Written with his customary wit and insight, On Days Like These chronicles O'Neill's fifty-year career as player and manager, from winning back-to-back European Cups under Brian Clough to steering the Republic of Ireland to the second round of Euro 2016. I particularly enjoyed watching his Leicester City side that won 2 League Cups, his Celtic side that broke Rangers stranglehold on the Scottish league and his exciting Irish side that made the second round of the European Championships against all odds. Some are more personal, some more academic, but an essential read for anyone interested in gender studies, writing in Ireland and creative endeavour. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive.

Listen in as she takes six different people on a career change journey to help them figure out what work they would really love to do and create a plan of how to make that career change happen. He demonstrated a unique ability to harness all the best attributes of his mentor with a more understanding approach to players that took him from lower league management right to the top end of the game. In this five-part series, US happiness expert and positive psychologist Michelle Gielan and British journalist and author Oliver Burkeman explore ways to become truly happier, backed up by scientific evidence.

it explains a lot of things especially that episode surrounding his abrupt departure from Aston Villa which, I have to say, left me wondering at the time and thinking that possibly he wasn’t well or something? Written with his trademark forthright honesty and humour, On Days Like These is a must-read for any fan of the beautiful game. Being a supporter of one of the clubs managed always makes for an interesting read, but the rest of the book is just as interesting. He has split his story in half with the first half covering his playing days and the second his managerial experiences. He talks about his pride in captaining his country and the elation he felt when Northern Ireland qualified for the 1982 World Cup.
