Damn, you follow my blog, it was my book of the year for last year and I’m always going on about it, sigh, women, sigh, bloggers. Eames’ plot holes are also forgivable, namely those where villains decide not to kill the heroes when they have the chance, James Bond-style, and large events that might leave the fate of the Band in question were they not located squarely in the middle of the book. The band Fable plays a few of these arenas as they travel north, and it’s in these early fights we get to meet our cast and get a taste of their skills.

Nevertheless, Bloody Rose is easily one of my favourite novels of the past few years, and is probably worth a reread soon. Oh, she could fire a bow with passing skill, but anyone with two arms and an arrow to spare could do the same. It’s adventure she wants – and adventure she gets as the crew embark on a quest that will end in one of two ways: glory or death.However, the Brumal Horde (the Heartwyld Horde from Kings plus every monster you can possible imagine and a thousand you can’t) has regrouped after its defeat at Castia and is on the move for vengeance, and every mercenary band worth its liquor is moving to stop it. Litanies of heretical deeds are intoned as novitiates engage in combat trials, the tales of spiritual traitors and vile apostates filling the trainees with hatred. Which is great, because everyone, from the wranglers to the bookers to the arena managers—heck, sometimes even the mercs themselves—get paid, and the rest of us get a hell of a show. and Tam, our main character, who is employed as Fable’s bard (Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but I don’t think Fable have the same reputation with bards as Saga did). I can only imagine how deliciously smug Mr Eames might have become after taking these brave moves because "Bloody Rose" delivers an equally riotously funny, action-packed fantasy experience as the Kings book did.

You all know how much I loved Kings of the Wyld ( KoTW), it was my book of the year for 2017 and with it, Eames caught lightning in a bottle. R. Martin school of thought, where magic should never be explained and authors are allowed to raise whomever they wish from the dead. After Fable complete their tour and the contract in Diremarch things really turn to shit and ultimately, they end up facing the Horde with the fate of all of Grandual and everyone’s lives be they monster or human on the line. Bloody Rose has an enormous cast of important characters, and they are all intricately tied together, not only by the story’s events, but also by its main themes.She works as a barmaid at The Cornerstone which is the main establishment where all the bands or warriors in town frequent, drink and fight. In Bloody Rose, the build-up, culmination, and the eventual ending is perfectly composed, performed and written. David named his daughter Coraline, proof that he has very little respect for normal society and is completely immersed in fantasy. Readers who love battle scenes and fighting, however, will probably need to change their underclothes.
